I'm about to try that cord idea. My aftermarket starter chewed he teeth off my ring gear, so I bought a pulley and a lawn mower cord. It's a cheaper fix than replacing the flywheel and starter. Thanks for the cool idea!

Life saver. I was thinkin about this this morning as my Chrapsman LT1000 riding mower 17.5HP Brigg has he infamous broken decompression lever (internally). Started lawn mowers as a kid this way. I'm on my dirt bike when I'm 3-4 miles out in the woods.

John Deere La105 starters are shit. Replaced it 3 times now and the Chinese parts keep breaking. Going to try this mod to get the mower going and delete the starter. Thank you! Will report back with success or failures.
